In the beginning of the lesson, we were asked to make a pie chart of the most important aspects of our life. We had to find out what is more important to us. We had to talk about these different aspects: family, friends, work, study, ethnic, language, religion, nationality, politics, cosmopolitan, diaspora, multi- level religion, transnational and national.
Then we had to make a pie chart by using these aspects. This was my result:
"Work and study" is also an important aspect. What you decide to study, has a great impact on your life. By this i mean, you're studying for something that you want to become or that you want to make your career out of it. You're always gonna be confronted with your studies while your working. If you don't like your studies then you probably won't like your job if it's in the same direction of what you studied for. Work is important to supply your family and yourself. Your work consumes a great part of your life, so it better be " fun" to do or otherwise you won't be happy.
"Language/ ethnics/ religion" is placed on 3th place because, it is also important but less important than the above mentioned aspects. I don't find religion and ethnics that big of a deal but the language is the most important of these 3 things. The more languages you know, the better you'll "succeed" in life. If you know a lot of languages, you have the oppurtunity to have a good communication with foreign persons. Communication is very important for your work and when you go on holidays.
"Nationality and politics" isn't that important for me but it is a small part of my pie chart but i think you'll never forget " your roots". Your roots will also have form your character a little bit. I do give a lot about my country and i find it very interesting what the politics decide about my country. Belgium has a rich history and i would find it very stupid if everyone forgets about his national roots.
"Cosmopolitan" is a little of importance to me. I can be happy in most of the countries. I don't mind to live in another country. Like now, i feel pretty good living in Denmark for only 3 months. I can adapt very easily.
" Diaspora" : i don't find it very interesting to know if my nationality is spread out all over the world.
"Multi- level religion": I have respect for every religion and their way of living. I'm also interested in how they react on certain situations but religion is not that important in my life.
After that we made a mind- map about globalisation. We discussed it with are whole group. We talked about that globalisation means that each state is turning multi- ethnic and multi- national. Globalisation has different kind of levels. You have local, national, transnational and multilevel. We know that every country is trying to raise their nationalism. By doing this, each person are getting these subjective emotionas towards other people. A lot of people have fear for the unknown cultures.
This is the mindmap:

Reflection:
I found it very interesting and difficult to make my own pie chart. There are a lot of "things" that make you, who you are and your "culture" has a big influence to create your identity. The pie charts were very different among the whole classroom, so it was interesting to see, what other people find very important and what not. Our group found friends and family as one of the most important thing in your life because they're always influencing your decisions, they help you with '"living" by being their in good and bad times.
